Cosmetology Program

The following is an outline of items that will be covered in the 1,500 hour cosmetology course: At the completion of this course the student will be able and qualified to pass the Virginia State Board Exam for Cosmetology to receive a professional license enabling them to perform any standard cosmetology services required by the salon:

•   Orientation, School Policies & Safety
•   Nail Care with Manicuring & Pedicuring
•   Shampooing & Rinsing
•   Scalp Treatments
•   Hair Styling & Cutting
•   Anatomy & Physiology
•   Permanent waving- chemical relaxing
•   Hair coloring & bleaching
•   Skin care & make up application
•   Wigs, hair pieces & related theory
•   Salon Management & Business

There will be approximately 1,000 hours devoted to the mastery of practical performances. These
practical performances include mastery of each of the following treatments with a practical “test off” evaluation in each category , by the instructor before graduation.

•   Hair and Scalp Treatments
•   Hair Styling
•   Tinting
•   Bleaching and frosting
•   Temporary rinses
•   Semi permanent color
•   Cold permanent waving or chemical relaxing
•   Hair shaping
•   wig care, styling, and placing on model
•   finger waving, and thermal waving
•   manicures and pedicures
•   facials and waxing
•   sculptured nails /tips and wraps
